Q & A

Subject: Paris to Normandy to Amsterdam.

Question: I plan to travel by rental car from Paris to Normandy (Colleville-sur-Mer). I then plan to continue by car to Amsterdam. You could give me some basic directions to these two destinations? I was also wondering how long it will take to get from the Normandy area to Amsterdam. Will it be difficult driving there? Hopefully my rental car will have satellite navigational equipment. If you could help me out with any of these questions it would be a big help. Thanks .

Answer: From looking at my map of France here is the route you should take;
Paris to Colleville-sur-Mer- Leave Paris on the Autoroute A-13 direction Caen, passing through Versailles. Take the A 13 all the way to Caen and once there take the National 13(N 13) direction Bayeux. In Bayeux take the Departmental 6(D 6) direction Port-en-Bessin-Huppain. Once in Port-en-Bessin-Huppain take the Departmental 514(D 514) left, I am not sure of the direction, Colleville-sur-Mer might be marked at this point. I would suggest that you have a map during your trip, as you will more than likely get lost. In France road signs don’t say north, south, east or west, they say the towns the road/highway is going to. For this it is highly advisable to have a map. Even with my French wife will still get lost quite often going to places for the first time. I would estimate your driving time from Paris to Colleville-sur-Mer, to be between 4-5 hours, depending on traffic.
Colleville-sur-Mer to Amsterdam- Go back through Bayeux to Caen, use the A 13 to go on to Rouen. After Rouen use the A 28 to pass through Addeville to Calais, using the A 16, then on to Belgium. I would guess that once you arrive in Belgium it will be marked the way to Amsterdam.
