Subject: Mont St. Michael.

Question: Supposedly there is construction on the causeway that goes to Mont St. Michael in 2002. Do you know when this is going to be finished and how this affects people visiting the site? I want to stay on the island and I know they have a few hotels there but I can't find anything on the Internet about it. All the hotels I have e-mail or faxes to are off island. French tourist web site did not have anything. Do you have a site, or how can I get phone numbers. I know the names of some of the hotels but don't know how to contact them. How long does it take to drive from the Mont to Amsterdam? Is the coastal route that much slower? Some books say 3 hours drive time to Paris from the Mont, other say 4 hours. which is it? Thanks!!!!!

Answer: I could not find out any information about construction on the causeway(highway D976) that goes to Mont St. Michael. I looked on some French road web sites and nothing was listed. Even if there is construction I can’t believe that the highway would be closed, Mont St. Michael is to big a tourist destination to be closed off for any amount of time.

As for your question about a driving route and time, I don’t know, I have never made the drive myself. Looking at a map of the Autoroute(French highway system) it looks like it might be faster to take coastal route and not going through Paris. Using the coastal route you would use the A16 to A28 to A29 to A13 to A84. I got the highway numbers off my map of France, keep in mind that sometimes my map is not the accurate when it come to highway numbers.
