Southern BurgundyLouhans

Capital of the Bresse Bourguignonne

This market town lives up to its reputation with a wide-ranging Monday morning market.

Not to miss in Louhans is a walk down le Grande-Rue to admire the arcades that line both sides of the street. Pay particular attention to numbers 10 - Hôtel du Commerce and 88 - Théâtre municipal de Louhans. Both are historic monuments.

There are two other historic monuments in Louhans. They are Hôtel-Dieu de Louhans, a once public hospital, now a museum and the towers, Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul.

Both towers where part of the town's ramparts. Saint-Pierre is on Rue des Dodanes and Saint-Paul on the corner of Rue Edgar Guigot and Rue Ferdinand Bourgeois.

Parking is best outside the town center especially on market day. There are 6 free car parks to choose from. Look for blue signs with a white P. Parking is metered in the center of town on le Grande-Rue.
