Southern Burgundy Romanesque ChurchesLe Puley

The church in the village of Le Puley is dedicated to Saint Christopher (Christophe in French) and was built during the late 12th century. Today all that stands is the walls as the church’s bell tower and roof collapsed in 1877.

Originally Saint Christopher was the church of a Benedictine community. It then became part of the community in Lancharre not far away.

After the collapse of the bell tower the debris was removed to the point where it was possible to go inside Saint Christopher. Meaning you can visit the interior of Saint Christopher.

What stands today is between a whole church and a ruin. The church’s three apses survived as did the walls of the nave and the façade. There are even some complete arches inside the church.

Le Puley is off the D28 road in Southern Burgundy. The nearest Autoroute exit is Chalon-Sud.
