Southern Burgundy Romanesque ChurchesColombier-le-Haut

The hamlet of Colombier-le-Haut overlooks the Grosne Valley and offers a nice view of the surrounding countryside. The hamlet also offers something else, a Romanesque church built in the 12th century.

The church is small and simple like most local Romanesque churches. The bell tower is somewhat thin and has 12 windows. It’s possible that over the years windows have been added or filled in. The only roundness found on the church is in the apse. The church is asymmetrical in that the north side is missing its protruding side, meaning that the church forms a three sided cross.

Colombier-le-Haut is part of the village of Bresse-sur-Grosne and is just off the D67 road between St Gengoux Le National and Tournus.
