Azé FranceCaves (Grottes d’Azé) From the Paleolithic era to the Middle Ages humans lived in the Azé caves, named after the village where they are located. A visit to the caves starts with the Prehistoric Cave. In the Prehistoric Cave you will see human and animal bones and other artifacts. In the cave museum you can see the sculls of a bear and tiger that it is believed fought each other. It’s not sure who won the battle but both died in the Prehistoric Cave. In addition if you are lucky you will see a sleeping bat! You will also see rock formations caused by dripping water. The visit then moves to the River Cave where you see pools and ends with an underground waterfall. When you visit the caves make sure to dress warmly, it might be hot outside but it’s cold inside the caves. A visit of the caves takes a little under two hours and is guided. Before or after your visit you can walk around the small museum where you buy your tickets and the outside displays of artifacts. The caves are part of a complex that includes a campground and swimming pool. Here is a video of the Azé caves. At 0:31 in the video you will see the year 1916 carved on a wall. It’s believed to be graffiti from during WWI. To start the video click on the arrow in the middle. Related Link: Follow @jeffsteiner
