The French do not understand my American diploma. On my American résumé I have: Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Suffolk University. On my French résumé (CV in French), I have: Université Suffolk, diplôme d'ingénieur, Systèmes Informatiques. I don't think that this exact translation is understood, so I did a little research and here is what I found out:

There is no treaty between France and the US when it comes to diplomas. So there is no apparatus to be able to exchange or receive a French equivalent of an American diploma.

It is up to your university, employer or whomever to decide for themselves if they will take your diploma at face value. What you can get from your local Rectorat (Office of the French Department of Education) is a certificate stating the number of years that you have of higher education. It always helps to have French official papers, as you never know when you will need them.
