ParisGrande Roue The Grande Roue de Paris - Ferris Wheel of Paris constructed for the Exposition Universelle de 1900 was until the 1980s the tallest Ferris Wheel ever built. The Grande Roue was located on Avenue Suffren at about the intersection with Avenue de Champaubert. This location is near the Champs de Mars and Eiffel Tower. The Grande Roue was 100 meters (328 ft) in diameter and weighed some 400 tons. Each of its 40 wagons could hold up to 30 people. Some wagons were used as homes during WWI. The Grande Roue was disassembled in 1921 and sold for scrap metal in 1937. Built and run by an English company - Paris Gigantic Wheel and Variety Company Ltd, the Grande Roue was never able to pay stockholders dividends. The Grande Roue and the Eiffel Tower.
