Non-French TidbitsVenice Italy By Jim and Emmy Humberd At the west end (across from St. Mark's Basilica), on the north side of Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's Square), and through the arcade in that building, there is a gondola "parking lot." Bordering the body of water is the Hotel Cavalletto. Pictures of this scene, taken from 1980 to the 1990s, show that the outside wall of the hotel had been renovated, and great spaces of missing stucco has been replaced. The hotel walls have been painted, but following the Venetian insistence on maintaining the ancient character of the city, they paint with "faded" paint, so it looks like it hasn't been painted for many years.
