Photo TidbitsSpindler Marqueterie

By Jim and Emmy Humberd

Spindler Marqueterie

One of Emmy's friends has a picture, made entirely of small pieces of wood veneer, an art called marquetry. Her husband bought the picture, created by the artist Paul Spindler, somewhere near Nancy, in the Vosges Mountains, when he was in France with the US Army.

With the help of the Tourist Information Office in Nancy, we found Spindler's studio all right, but at Saint Léonard, near Obernai, about twenty miles from Strasbourg many, many miles east of Nancy. We now have the beautiful Spindler art in our home. It was created by Paul's son, Jean-Charles (John) Spindler.
