Photo Tidbits By Jim and Emmy Humberd
This is an inside view of The Church of Sainte-Jeanne d'Arc, built in Rouen in 1979. The stained windows were rescued from Saint Vincent's Church, which was destroyed by bombs during WW II. Stained windows and other works of art in many of Europe¹s Cathedrals were removed and safely stored away, prior to the war. The original building may be destroyed by war, but the important art work was preserved, then restored and rehabilitated. In this case, a glorious combination of ancient works of art, and modern architecture. Outside the church, to your right, is the spot marked by a silver cross, where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake. That marketplace is now surrounded by several large restaurants. The new market area is located on the other side of the church, to your left, under an extension of the sweeping roof. A narrow sweep of the roof, to your back, continues for about a block as a low covered walkway. Books by Jim and Emmy Humberd:
