From Passau, passenger boats and barges loaded with freight, sail east to Vienna, Budapest, Belgrade and on to the Black Sea, or west through the Main-Donau canal to Bamberg, Würzburg, and Frankfurt, then on the Rhine River to Wiesbaden, Bonn, and Köln (Cologne), then on the Maas River to Rotterdam and the North Sea. Passau, as it extends from the river to the hilltop, provides a beautiful photo opportunity from the bridge over the Donau.
