By Jim and Emmy Humberd

Moret Sur Loing

Just a few miles east of Fontainebleau you will find the noteworthy village of Moret. Situated on the Loing River, it is one of hundreds of little villages with a cathedral, old walls, gates, bridges, the river and all the quiet charm that goes with it. Numerous floodlights directed toward the cathedral, and the walls and gates, light the town at night in the summer. At least that's what it says. We've spent nights in two different years in the nearby campground, but not being 'night people' we never stayed up late enough to drive our RV to town to see the floodlights in action.

The river was home to swans and a dozen taupe-colored cygnets. They all loved the stale bread Emmy supplied, and the next morning we loved the fruit and vegetables that were supplied by the market that filled the streets of this ancient town on a Tuesday morning.
