Q & A

Subject: Le Bugue-Lascaux.

Question: Hi. My husband and I are travelling to Paris at the end of March. We are interested in travelling to SW France, especially to Le Bugue and the surrounding areas where evidence of prehistoric man may be seen. Specifically, we will be in SW France from Tuesday, March 27 until Friday, March 28. I've done some surfing and am worried that this area of France is pretty much closed down this time of year. Can you give me some indication of how difficult it will be for us to find a place to stay in one of these smaller towns east of Bordeaux?

Answer: I don’t think that you will have a problem finding a place to stay in around Le Bugue. Have a look at http://www.gites-de-france.fr/eng/index.htm, it lists gites and Chambres d'hôtes(B&B’s) and should give you info for places to stay, you are going to a very touristy region. Le Bugue should have a tourism office and they might be able to send you a complete list of gites and Chambres d'hôtes. I traveled with my family around Bordeaux, not exactly where you are going and I had no problem finding things open. If the weather is nice then things should really be open even on week days. If you can try to go and see Sarlat, it is one of the loveliest towns in France. My wife and I, for our honeymoon biked from Sarlat to Lascaux and back and the country side was beautiful as is Sarlat, so you should really like your time there. You will need to rent a car as there are not many buses in the Perigord region. As for the question of a train station, I was able to find it in the French part of the SNCF web page, Bordeaux to Le Bugue takes about four hours and costs 19.40 EURO, with a stop over in PERIGUEUX.
