Moving PlannerApartment Hunting in FrancePaperwork Needed

To rent an apartment in France you most likely will be asked for the following -

  • Last three months of rent receipts (Quittance de Loyer).
  • Last three months of pay stubs (Bulletins de Salaire). Landlords generally look for income that is three to four times the rent.
  • Proof of future employment, a letter from your employer (Attestation de l'Employer) stating you have employment or a work contract (Contrat de Travail).
  • Income tax return (Avis d'Imposition)
  • Identification (Carte d'Identite) and/or marriage certificate (Livret de Famlille)

If your missing most of the above list, as my wife and I where when we moved to France, you can have a co-signer (cosignataire). The idea is that the co-signer will assume the rental payments if you cannot. The co-signer would also have to supply a similar list.
