MâconRiverfront

Looking to relax or get a sun tan? Here's the place for you. The Esplanade Lamartine runs along the Saône River, Mâcon's natural eastern boundary. It's a nice laid-back stretch where you can enjoy nature. In the warmer months there is often a marry-go-round and in winter an ice skating rink.

Named after Alphonse de Lamartine born in Mâcon on October 21 1790. Lamartine was a poet/politician instrumental in the foundation of France's Second Republic. Lamartine's statue overlooks the esplanade.

From the esplanade you can admire Pont Saint-Laurent and its 12 arches. Construction started in the 11th century. Over the years the bridge was fortified and remodeled. The Esplanade Lamartine is easy to find, just hop on the N6, direction Mâcon. When you get to Mâcon and see the Saône River you're drive along Esplanade Lamartine. There two parking areas. Esplanade Lamartine is the end of the Voie Bleue bike path that runs 17 km - 10 miles to Fleurville.
