Chalon-sur-SaôneSaône River

The Saône River lends its name to half (the Loire River is the other half) of the official name of Southern Burgundy - Saône-et-Loire.

The Saône River is part of a vast network of waterways throughout France. This network is now mostly used by barges for leisure travel. Part of the French modern road network follows the waterways. For example the N6 road and A6 Autoroute parallel the Saône River that runs through Southern Burgundy.

The Saône River starts in the Vosges Mountains and ends in Lyon where it becomes part of the Rhône River.
