Southern Burgundy This quaint hamlet near Cormatin is centered on its Romanesque church. Construction on the church started in the 11th century and in 1926 it was declared a national monument. A Gothic chapel was added to the church in the 15th century. In the 10th century Chazelle was situated between lordships of nearby Uxelles and farther away Bourbon-Lancy. As Bourbon-Lancy was on its last legs, about 1102 its lord gave Cluny the church in Chazelle. After this Chazelle became dominated by Cluny and the church was rebuilt. Around 1170 the lord of Uxelles gave its remaining buildings in Chazelle to Cluny. The Grosne River passes through Chazelle. After entering the hamlet you'll pass over the Grosne, notice locks on both sides. The Grosne gives its name to the local valley. Chazelle has accommodations and is off the D981 road between Cormatin and Cluny.
