My husband and I will likely be moving to St. Amour outside of Bourg-en-Bresse to manage a chateau. The only stipulation is high speed internet as he needs to keep his job and work remotely. The chateau currently has satellite TV, so we are guessing that could be linked to internet but we're having a really hard time researching. He just needs something faster than dial-up.
The chateau is in the Franche-Comte region if that helps.
Any insight will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Anne

Here is one URL that will test if you can get ADSL or not - http://adslcgi.free.fr/suivi/eli.html Just type in a phone number from the town where you are staying along with the post code and name.

I'm guessing that you speak French then. Go to the online yellow/white pages for France and then enter the region which you are moving to. France Telecom is normally the first to arrive with ADSL in each region of France. Shortly after their arrival, the other service providers arrive. You can go directly to calling France Telecom to ask about your particular address and/or go to the other providers. Here are a few names to look up:
Wannado The France Telecom name for their svc Cegetel currently offering unlimited ADSL 14.95 per month (that is who I use) Tiscali FREE
There are others, but I can't remember all the names. AOL is also here. All the above Service Providers have websites. Just add a .fr after the name of the provider - by example www.cegetel.fr
Yes satellite and internet service is available in France, but mainly in Paris and other major cities. We don't have it here yet. We are told it will be in our area (Vaucluse) sometime in 2006 (I'm not holding my breath).
I hope that helps.
