Autun
Porte Saint-André The best two examples of Roman gates into Autun are Porte Saint-André and Porte d'Arroux. Porte Saint-André, built between the first and third century is on the Decumanus Maximus, Autun's once east-west Roman main road. This gate still has one of its guardhouses. Above there are 10 small arches and below four. On the ground level the two middle arches were used for carts and the two outer arches for pedestrians. Porte Saint-André is on rue des Fusilliés Marins north of the town center. Porte d'Arroux is on the Cardo Maximus, north-south road. It's is very close to the Arroux River and about a 10 minute walk to the Temple de Janus.
Porte d'Arroux Porte d'Arroux is still 'working'. Its two middle arches are on the rue du Faubourg d'Arroux. The two outer arches are used for pedestrians.
