I'm wondering about the difficulties of moving to France for three months. I know French fairly well (I have a BS in French and always score at the upper level on the online French tests), and lived in Paris for a summer and in the Lorraine region as an English Assistant for three months. I also have friends who live in the Strasbourg area. The difficulties may arise in the fact that I will have my baby with me (6-8 months when we'd go), and I have some relations to the US military, which was a stress on me the last time I was in France due to the media comments there. I realize there are differences in opinions on both sides of the Atlantic; I just wish the two countries got along better ;) !
Any ideas you can share would be helpful.
Thanks!
Jennifer

Jennifer,
You'll probably find that your baby will open more doors in France than at home. Though I'm not a parent, I got the sense on a three-month visit last year that French people are much more likely to coo openly over others' children than are people in the U.S. The famous French reserve seems to melt at the sight of anyone under five, though landlords may be exempt from this.
About the French-U.S. situation: any adults we met in France last year asked us our opinions of the U.S. political scene before they gave theirs. If you find you disagree with them, you can either argue your point (most people there seem to enjoy a good argument) or make your excuses about being in a hurry just then to get somewhere.
Best of luck.

Hi jennifer!!
Don't worry about the whole "french-american" story.. It's true that both of our governments have been showing very bad examples of "stupid acts" on both sides. But i work with a lot of americans and they never had any problems here. My future wife is american and she has spent 6 months here, but no problems at all!! Some people are a little bit curious and that 's pretty much it!!
Now, on the baby part, i can't really help you..
DOn't hesitate to contact me for more help if you need!!
