Subject: driving with children in France
Date: Wednesday, July 28, 2004
Name: Dipita
Message: My family (husband, 2.5 yr daughter) and I are travelling to France for 11 days in Sept. We are in Paris for 1 week and then would like to rent a car and drive to some place a couple hours from Paris. Would anyone know if you can rent car-seats for toddlers in France or do we have to carry it with us from USA.

Also, any recommendation on where to go in the Loire Valley - would like to stay either in a old village or castle converted into a hotel or bed/breakfast. Thanks, Dipita

Message Yes, you are able to rent car seats in France from car rental agencies. I do remember them being quite expensive to rent, as they are in the US. You can probably find out exact info by calling Hertz or Eurocar rental in France or looking on the net.

Message I can recommend a truly outstanding castle to stay in the Loire Valley. The name is Chateau-de-la-Motte in Usseau, near Chatellerault. I stayed there for 5 nights recently and had an excellent time.

Their website is www.chateau-de-la-motte.net and it gives very good information about the place. They have 5 rooms in the castle itself and the rooms are all newly remodeled. They also have a "gite" that is located right next to the castle and is apartment-like with 3 bedrooms.

From Usseau you can easily make your way to some of the excellent sights in the Loire Valley including Chinon, Saumur, Tours, Poitiers, etc. It's also possible to visit LaRochelle from Usseau in a day. It's also in an area famous for hot air ballooning with the World Championships held there in the past. Cost is about Euro 150 per person.

Hope this helps!

Message Please remember most car rental companies rent standard drive cars, so if you have to have automatic you have to special request it. Have a fun trip.
