Subject: American Community Resources in Paris
Date: Wednesday, June 09, 2004
Name: John
Message: Hello everyone. I am looking to relocate (temporarily?) to the Paris area with my girlfriend (French) in the fall. I have been living in the UK for the last year, completing a MSc in Informatics. Work (and the permit) is the major issue now. I am trying the obvious avenues of American companies with offices in Paris (my previous background is in management and strategy consulting in the States) and academic/research institutions (my masters is in a relatively obscure corner of CS/AI). English as a second language seems like a good fallback, but most of the TEFL companies want a certification.

To make a relatively long story a bit shorter, I am looking for American community groups in Paris and perhaps someone to talk to (I am in Paris for the next two weeks) about the realities of working here. We have friends here and a social network, but they are all French and don't know much about relocation issues.

Anyway, I'd love to hear from anyone with an idea. If you're in Paris now, I'll buy the coffee/drinks.
