I was born into a French family (from Alsace) here in America (Austin, TX). Up until I was 16, I had never been. At that time, I travelled to Paris and then to the beautiful countryside of Ville-Neuf (sp?). It's been some time since I've renewed my citizenship with France. Is there a limit as to how long I have to renew it? Do you think it would still be valid if I went to a consulate to get renewed?
I do have plans to continue my education over in France. I am pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Heard of any success stories of good engineering schools in France?

Go to your local French consulate to learn the answers. Be sure to take with you your birth certificate, parents' livret de famille and any other paperwork from the French government, your Texas driver's license or state i.d., and anything else you can think of that will explain to them who you are and what your origins are. If you have an expired carte d'immatriculation or passport from the consulate, take that too.
When I contacted the consulate in San Francisco (http://www.consulfrance-sanfrancisco.org/index.html) about a similar matter, my e-mails and voice mails went unanswered. But when I showed up and took a number, the official was very helpful.
Bonne chance.
