Hi, I was looking a lot through the posts here and wondered if anybody knows the answer to my problem. I am getting married to a French citizen in May in the United States, I am an American Citizen. We are going to try and stay in the United States for at least 2 years because he holds a US college degree and cant find work in his native Nice. Due to the fact that we wont be living in France but will have our marriage recognized by the french government, will I have to wait until we move to France to try and obtain French citizenship, or can I start the process after we have been married for a year while I am still living in the US. Thanks so much to anybody who can respond and help me to find the answer. ~Christy

First, as far as getting married in the US, did you go through the fiance visa? A person can't come into the US on a visitor visa with the intent on getting married. If your fiance intends on coming on the vwp and the immigration officers know it, they won't let him in.
Secondly, about your french citizenship. Once you're married, your husband needs to contact the Us consulate closest to him and get your marriage translated onto the french books and then after 3 years of being married, you can get french nationality. I think you have to go down in person and get it at that point, but i'm not sure about that. We're still working on that.
