Message: Do you have an amusing, sad, moving, informative or cautionary story about any aspect of visiting or living in France?

Perhaps your mixed feelings about finally leaving home to live permanently in France or the vexed problem of a border dispute with neighbours; the fun of making new friends or the trauma of repairing a leaking tap at 3:00 am.

If you have a France-related anecdote to tell then why not consider sharing it with The 'Sharing France' Project, a collaborative effort among Francophiles geared towards providing information in an interesting way?

The project can be found at: http://www.totalfrance.com/france/forum/viewforum.php?f=61

The project has been started with the aim of collecting together first-hand experiences - of visiting, living in or working in France - and publishing them, in electronic book form, for the enjoyment of Francophiles everywhere. To make the project more fun there will be prizes for the best entries.

Anyone can contribute - you don't have to be a Mark Twain or a Jane Austen - and there are no pre-conditions about length, style, or content. This is not a writing competition but an information gathering project. If your story is interesting then come and share it with interested people!

Full credit will be given to all contributors - except those who desire anonymity - and Francophiles everywhere will be able to download the finished compilation direct to their PC.

Full details (including submission procedures) available at the above link.

Message ONE MONTH IN FRANCE

I have just returned from a one month visit to France - longest stay Dordgone/Sarlat area. Did drive from Normandy, Brittany, Dordogne and to the south.

First, I love the French people - civilized, good sense of humour, MATURE! Very much liked the terrain in Dordgone. However, quite taken aback at the amount of really ugly industry surrounding every town; including the drive to get to Aix-en-Provence. Same for Brive. And a tremendous amount of huge shoddy apartment buildings - all this really spoils the terrain. I have never read about this in any travel books. I am still contemplating trying to find a place to buy there and live there, but the above has certainly given me pause. Any one else with similar perception?
