Message You may have problems registering a car if you do not have a long-stay visa.

You will need at the very least a long-stay visa that does not require you to get a carte de sejour or short-term residence permit.

The long-stay visa (classique) requires you to get a carte de sejour which is renewable. You can change your situation but not until after you get the carte de sejour. You will need to make sure they convoke you for a medical visit before you get your carte de sejour. When you request it upon arrival you will get a recipisee. You need to make sure you renew the recipisee and ask occasionally to make sure you get convoked by the OMI for the medical visit. Once you have the medical certificate they will issue you the carte de sejour. You can register your car if you have the recipisee de demande de carte de sejour even if your initial Visa expired.
