BlogLongvic Air Show - Monday, July 05, 2004

This is a little late. I'm sorry. Last Sunday we ? wife, son and myself went to the Longvic Air Show held at Air Base 102 Dijon or Base Aérienne 102 de Dijon in French. Normally Base 102 is off limits to tourist you can?t even take 'I'm here' photo; it's a military base after all, but not for the Air Show. I was able to take many photos the best of which are here - Air Base 102 Dijon.
The entire base was not open to the public but it did seem that way. After all it is an air base and home to Dijon's Airport so that means there are runways and runways are much bigger 'in person'. Our biggest mistake was not talking our bikes on to Base 102, something that was possible. We were smart to ride our bikes and not drive; we read in the paper the day after that over 40,000 people came. That along with the traffic jam we saw coming in made us thankful that we biked. The show itself was nice, lots of - you guessed it airplanes, some you could even go in and of course there were a lot of fighter pilots. We were able to stand along one of the runways and see the planes take off and land, much more impressive in person than in words.
