Genevois Region If you are looking for the best view of Geneva then look no farther than Mont Salève. Its over 3000-foot height and location – it is just a few miles from Geneva offer the best view of Geneva possible. Mont Salève is a long narrow mountain with its two sides very different from each other. The northwest side facing Geneva looks like a glacier formed it. It has almost no slope, just a straight drop down to the bottom. The southeast side on the other hand is slopping with forest that gradually works its way up to meet the rolling top of Mont Salève. Since the top of Mont Salève is relatively flat, during the summer you can see cows grazing next to hikers. A drive or walk along the top of Mont Salève offers a series of panoramic views of both the Alps – including the Mont Blanc and the Jura Mountains. Because of the northwest side and its drop, visitors to Mont Salève often see Paragliders. There are a number of Paraglider takeoff points on Mont Salève. Including one just next to the cable car station. The highest point of Mont Salève is the Grand Piton at 1375 meters (4511 feet). The best view of Geneva is found next to the cable station or téléphérique in French. There is also a restaurant next to the cable car station along with a playground and a number of hiking trails. Mont Salève is accessible from the A40 Autoroute. Coming from Lyon exit 14 Annemasse direction Reignier then follow the signs - Salève. Coming from Chamonix stop at the Téléphérique du Salève rest stop and take the cable to the top or drive following the exit 14 directions. Also accessible on the road between Annemass and St Julien that parallels the A40.
