Taxis in FrancePrice of a Taxi in France

I received this question through my site for Lourdes Airport. I thought I'd share it here as it illustrates how to go about estimating the cost of a taxi in France.

How do I find out the cost of a taxi from Lourdes Airport to the village of Meilan - postcode 32170?

If you don't know the post code/ZIP code of the town you are traveling to, use this site: Find a postal code in France. If you use Google Maps you should be able to just use the location's name. But make sure you have the right name. Some names are very popular in France and you might go to the wrong place! Examples: Colombey les Deux Eglises/Colombey les Belle and Châlons-en-Champagne/Chalon-sur-Saône.

Hello,
To calculate the cost of a taxi in France I use Mappy.com. I start by finding the distance needed to travel. You need to select the “Itinerary” tab on the Mappy.com home page. You then input start and end locations, in this case 65290 Juillan France (location of the Lourdes Airport) and Meilan 32170 France. For airports you can also use the airport code or type in the airport name. You will then be given the distance to be travelled, in your case 41. Take note of this and go to the site: http://www.taxis-de-france.com/professionnel/tarifstaxis.htm. This site lists the price per kilometer for a taxi in all French departments. See Taxis in France to learn how to read this page.
On http://www.taxis-de-france.com/professionnel/tarifstaxis.htm find the department your trip will be starting from. You can find the department you are traveling from by noting the first two digits of your starting point’s postcode, here 65 Hautes-Pyrénées. You need to use the column C of the table for a one way trip, Monday to Saturday 7am to 7 pm, 3 passengers or less. By doing this we find that the cost per kilometer is €1.50. So then multiply this out - 1.5*41=61.5. This gives us the answer of €61.50. Now this is only an estimate, but it’s generally very close.
