Photo TidbitsRocamadour By Jim and Emmy Humberd Clinging dramatically to the top of a 1640 foot cliff, Rocamadour's castle dominates this scene, in the Dordogne. Half-way down, on the Place St.-Amadour (Parvis des églises), there are seven sanctuaries including the Chapel of Notre Dame. Legend says the publican Zaccheus (a disciple of Jesus) and his wife Veronica are buried at Rocamadour. An elevator ride, or 216 steps below the Place St.-Amadour, there is a colorful confusion of gateways, old houses and stores on Rocamadour's main street. We took a short walk from the campground, enjoying the view, and taking photos of the village below, the chapels half way up, and the castle above, as the sun went down and the lights took effect. Next morning cameras were again in action Rocamadour glowed in the sunrise. Books by Jim and Emmy Humberd: Related Links: Hotel in Figeac (Hour and half drive southeast.)
