Subject: Teaching English in France. Question: Hi. I've read a lot of things in your website that mention Americans teaching English over there in France for a living. I was wondering if you knew how easy it is to find these types of jobs and if many of these jobs require certification etc. I know in Spain, they hire practically any native speaker of English and they don't necessarily have to have certification. I was told that this is because they desperately need teachers of English (at least in Spain). And in my own research, I have found that to be true. However, I don't see too much on the Internet about these types of jobs in France. So, I was wondering how true this would be in France and would it be fairly easy for me to find a job when I do come to France. Thanks a lot! By the way, your website is great. It provides me with a lot of helpful information. Answer: I speak about teaching English in France so much, because it is a job that potentially any native English speaker can do. From what I have heard and seen, in most cases there is not a need for any type of certification. Some companies like Berlitz will train you for a week to become a teacher, but you will not get paid for it. Right now it is not easy to find any type of job in France. I have started looking for one as an English teacher, for about a month now in Strasbourg and as of yet had no luck. Maybe in another city your results might be different. What I would suggest is that you use the French on-line yellow pages at, http://wfc.pagesjaunes.fr/pj.cgi?lang=en, this is the English part, do a search for English schools in the town or region you would like to move. Some schools should have a web site that might tell you what their requirements are for employment. If not send them an e-mail and ask. Related articles: Follow @jeffsteiner |
