Q & AMoving/Living/WorkingWhere to live in France?

Question: I am English woman well educated, travelled, etc. (U.S. citizen) so have both passports. Living in California wishing to relocate to France this year.
I am not sure which part! Short visit to Provence (Vence) seemed very dry - being English do like greenery. Dordogone last year - green, yes, but felt a bit remote. I have been thinking of Normandy. Know it is not as warm, but architecture (from websites) seems very nice, green yes. I hope to find a property with some income potential. Have thought about looking around via Wwoofers. Also, would like to team up with another with similar idea - much better to travel with someone. At present boxing up all my belongings, including some furniture as I am told furniture is expensive in France. Had thought of renting somewhere first. Friend is renting a place that I could share in Poitu-Charente, but as of yet do not know much about that area. As you can tell, a bit 'all over the place.

Answer: Have you thought about Bordeaux? I lived there for a year and a half and found it to be very nice, same type of architecture as in Paris but a lot less people. Lots of English also!
I would suggest that you travel around for a time, if your budget allows it, and not really worry too much about finding a place to settle down right away. The only way you will settle on a part of France to live in is by trial and error. I'll add I have yet to find much error on locations in France, as France is so beautiful.
Another idea is Burgundy, my wife is from there and I find it to be a very relaxing place, and you could easily by a place there that you could turn into a Gîte or B & B.
Right now my job is finding one. I have found France a hard place to find employment. That along with my web site and two year old keeps me busy. I am also hoping to market my services though my site, travel and move planning.
