Q & A

Subject: Type of employment available for Americans-English speakers in France.

Question: Bonjour. I was just wondering what type of employment is available for Americans/native English speakers in France? My French is primative (I speak Spanish fluently), and would expect to improve to become more fluent before I would decide to try and find a job. My fiance is from the Dordogne and we have concidered moving back there after we're both done with college. I really loved it, and am seriously concidering moving at some point and am curious as to the opportunities available.

Answer: Your best bet for finding work will be teaching English. The pay is not that great but it is a job that demands little knowledge of French and is reality open to native English speakers.
In general right now the French job market is horrible, no other way to describe it. French companies tend to be more conservative than American ones and do not like to take chances, they try to match the job to a person almost exactly. I am speaking from experience and what a few headhunters have told me. Good luck!
