Q & A

Subject: Shipping furniture to France.

Question: My family and I are moving to Paris for between one and three years and are interested in finding out the costs of shipping household furnishings to Paris and the best (cheapest, but reliable) ways to do it. Thank you for your help!

Answer: Last summer we moved to France from Boston and our shipping costs were around $3,000, door to door. We shipped via boat and it took under two months for our things to arrive. I forgot what exact size of all our stuff was, we shipped three futons with frames, a kitchen table, eight chairs and lots of others stuff, we had over forty boxes. What I would suggest is that you ship as much as you can, as furniture is much more expensive in France than in the US. I have a web site, www.americansinfrance.net , that has lots of information on France. You might have a look under Q & A – “Moving to Croissy-sur-Seine
