Q & AMoving/Living/WorkingPassports and other documentation for moving to France

Question: I have copied a lot of what you have available on your web site about shipping, gas prices, and etc. I was wondering what are the basic things we need to know before even getting started.

At present our passports are good until 2008, for some reason my sweet man, Denis thinks we should get new ones.

What other documentation to we need to apply for before getting started?

What about bringing our three cats with us?

Where in the southwest section of France would you recommend (+/- 50,000 population)?

We will be living on a US government retirement of about $30,000 a year, what will that get us?

Do you think a Tennessee ridge-runner can fit in France? Someone who will probably end up speaking French with a southern accent. That should be interesting.

Answer: Don't worry about the passports; you can easily renew them in France. Your going to need all you personal documentation, birth certificates, passports and so on, all translated into French. The French just love paperwork, do not forget anything! You should have no problems getting your cats into France. The only area I am familiar with in the southeast of France is Bordeaux, that might be too big for you but I really liked living there. I spent almost two years there.
