Q & A

Subject: Might move to Aix-en-Provence or another city of some size in the South.

Question: I explored Paris for a month (May 16-June 16 of this year) (my 6th visit to determine the feasibility of moving there. As much as I like Paris, the gloominess of the weather most of that month was a "deal killer". I had a severe case of Seasonal Affective Disorder. I have lived almost all of my 61 year in Florida, and detest the heat, but am, nevertheless, now exploring the possibility of moving to Aix-en-Provence or another city of some size in the South. I would appreciate information about the price of renting an apartment (I won't have a large income, but am willing to live a couple of notches above "starving graduate student". I am almost fluent in French and speak very fluent Spanish (as well as Southern). I am also a Licensed Mental Health Therapist with a private practice. My husband died in January, so now's the time to put my feet where my dreams are. Many thanks for any information or contacts you can offer.

Answer: That’s a dirty little secret you just found out about Paris, the weather! To be honest with you most of France except for some parts in the south, are most days overcast. I know very little about the south-east of France, so the best I can do is give you these real estate links, http://www.entre-particuliers.com/, http://www.fnaim.fr/index.asp, http://www.french-properties.net/, http://www.logic-immo.com/logicImmo/jsp/home.svt and http://www.immo.bonjour.fr/.
I lived in Bordeaux so I can tell you the weather there might be more to your liking. The one bad report I have heard about Bordeaux that I don’t agree with, is that it is not in a central location. Looking at a map this looks true and it is six hour by car from Paris, but only three by train. Good lick with your plans to move to France, anymore question are welcome!
