Q & A

Subject: Long distance phone calls.

Question: How much does it usually cost to call overseas from Paris? I went there last month and since we did not have a phone card yet we used the 800 number for long-distance to Canada and they billed our credit card--- now the bill arrived and it charged $40 dollars CAN for a 5 minute call. I just want to know if this is a common charge because that is so expensive!! I could not check with the company because I don't know how to reach the number from here. Is this charge a mistake?

Answer: It sounds high to me $40 CAN for a 5 minuet call. Using France Telecom the charge would have been, using the most expensive tariff, 13.33 FF or about 2.90 CAN. When you made your call did you go through an operator, that can add lots to a international call, France Telecom charges 11.40 FF or about 2.48 CAN to talk to an operator, I was not able to figure out the rate after this initial charge. I hope I was able to help you.
