Q & A

Subject: La Chausse France.

Question: I have been doing genealogy research more many years and have found a number of the individuals in my research listed as having lived in "La Chausse, France". I have not been able to locate this place in books or on the internet. Would you happen to have an idea as to what place these records are referring to?

Answer:

My guess is that "La Chausse" is not a town or city but more than likely a Lieu-Dit. A Lieu-Dit is an unincorporated area or community in France. I did a search on a web site that has a database of Lieu-Dit's in France, http://www.egv-editions.com/cgi-bin/lieux-dits/lieuxdits.pl and I got the following results,

LA CHAUSSEE IN THE CITY/TOWN OF BLAIN DEPARTMENT 44
LA CHAUSSERIE IN THE CITY/TOWN OF SAINT-I.EGER-LES-VIGNES DEPARTMENT 44
LA CHAUSSEE IN THE CITY/TOWN OF SAINT-PATERNE DEPARTMENT 72
LA CHAUSSERIE IN THE CITY/TOWN OF BRUZ DEPARTMENT 35
LA CHAUSSEE IN THE CITY/TOWN OF GOUVIEUX DEPARTMENT 60
ILE DE LA CHAUSSEE IN THE CITY/TOWN OF DEPARTMENT BOUGIVAL 78
LA CHAUSSEE IN THE CITY/TOWN OF SAINT-GERMAIN-SUR-VIENNE DEPARTMENT 37
