Q & A

Subject: Intra-company transfer for the purposes of working-living in France.

Question: My company has a branch at LeBourget. How hard is it to do an intra-company transfer for the purposes of working/living in France for a few years or until residency is established? Also, my wife is a Registered Nurse. Would this make things easier? Neither one of us speak another language, but I have worked on contract in England for 1 1/2 years, lived in Spain for 8 months and South Africa for 6 months with my company. During that time I realized that I liked the atmosphere and easy going life Europeans have and I think it offers some day-to-day benefits that America will never offer. Your input would be appreciated. Another thing I noticed is that The American College in Paris offers some good programs of study that would help me along with the French culture.

Answer:

I don't know what you mean by intra-company transfer? Is it that you would like to move to France from another European country that you work in? If that were the case, it would be your employer who would do all the paperwork for your permit to live in France.
I have heard that there is a shortage of nurses in France, but not speaking French will severely hurt the chances of your wife finding work, assuming her nursing degree is accepted in France. As there is no treaty between France and the US with regards to diplomas.
