Q & AMarriage/Honeymoon in FranceGetting married in France Question: I have a question about getting married in France. I have read your Q&A section on the topic, but my situation is a little different. I am a US citizen. My soon-to-be ;-) fiance has dual citizenship with Canada and France, but lives and works in the US on a work visa. We've discussed getting married in France as he had family living there, etc. I read your reply to a question about how to go about getting married in France and I was wondering if the 40-day rule applied to French citizens also (even though he doesn't reside there)? Will his French citizenship allow us to get around that rule? Any information would be appreciated. Answer: The 40-day applies to everyone; of course if you know someone there is a way around it. What you could do is find someone in the Mairie office, where you will get married, that will let you 'slide' that is accept that one of you has been in France for 40-days even if you have not.
