Subject: Difficulty of traveling by train in France.
Question: My husband and I would like to go to France the last two weeks in May 2003. Of course we would like to visit Paris and see as much of the country as possible. Would it be too difficult to travel from Paris to some of the other regions, Alsace, etc. using the railway system? What would be the best way to go about this?
Answer: Train travel is my preferred means for getting around France. The system in France is very efficient with trains running throughout the day on most lines. Paris acts as the hub, this should aide you, with just about all major lines connecting through it. Have a look at the French train company web site, http://www.sncf.com. Tickets can be bought on-line or in any train station in France. Tickets tend to be cheaper the earlier you buy them. TVG type trains travel at up to 180 miles an hour, making Bordeaux for example only three hours away from Paris
