Subject: Can not find a job in France. Question: I am interested in moving to France. While I have the skills to qualify for a work permit, (an EU work permit, although all of the literature I've read has been about England.) I am having trouble finding employment (understatement of the century, in truth I've found it nearly impossible.) do you have any advice on doing this? I would like to hear any information you have on how anyone expatriated from the us to France. ( I don't have a college degree, and I'm not interested in obtaining one except as a means to an end...) Answer: I have been having the same problem, it took me much longer, 4 months, to find a job than I thought it would. It is not the greatest as it ends at the end August, so I am back in the job market. My suggestion for finding work is networking, that’s how I got my job, through my wife. If you are in France start asking anyone you know, if they know of a job opening. Also try any local temp agencies, English schools or restaurants, I have heard it is easy to find a job as a waiter. If you are not in France look for e-mail list(Yahoo Groups would be a good start, there are a few that focus on France) or discussions boards(http://www.francekeys.com, http://www.france.com, etc.) and put out the call that you are looking for work. All the job search sites I use are on my web site under the Finding a job page. France 101 - A six-day long conference focusing on everything you need to know live in France. Follow @jeffsteiner |
