Tallest Mountain in the Alps

This is one of the best views I’ve found of the Mont Blanc, the tallest mountain in the Alps. The view is from the village of Cordon. Cordon bills its self as the “Balcony of Mont Blanc”. It’s difficult to see how one could dispute that claim.
I also took a photo of the Aiguilles de Varan that is across from the Mont Blanc and the Aiguilles de Midi.

Cantonal Elections

Cantonal elections will be held in France on March 20th and 27th 2011. Cantonal elections are for councilors who will be elected for three-year terms and will serve in Conseil Générals (departmental legislative assemblies). France has 100 departments, each divided into cantons and all elect a councilor to serve in a Conseil Générals. Elections will take place in 2,023 cantons in France.
Terms used to be for six years, with half of Conseil Générals members up for reelection every three years. However, because of a reform in 2010, Conseil Générals and Conseil Régionals – regional legislative assemblies will fusion in 2014 and be replaced by territorial councils who will represent both departmental and regional government in France.
The traditional French two-round voting system will be used in the cantonal elections. If no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote in the first round, a second round vote determines the winner. The winner is the candidate the most votes.

LeFrenchMobile

LeFrenchMobile is a SIM card for use in France. It’s designed for English speakers in France and offers the great advantage of being in English. American in France readers can get a €5 voucher by using this code: USFR11. For €20 (+ tax) you’ll only pay for your airtime and get the SIM card for free. €20 works out to about 51 minutes of airtime when calling the US.
