NewsletterJuly 2013 American TroopsThe above photo is of American troops marching on the Champs-Élysées July 14th 1919. I've expanded my French postcard collection and am adding postcards to my facebook page. Postcards are shown by day they were postmarked or dated. I also added them to my web site. You can see postcards sent in May and June. Most are from before 1920, including many from Paris. This one demonstrates how the French were big readers over a 100 years ago and still are today! C'est pas terribleC'est pas terrible, literally - it's not terrible. Actually means something is terrible. It's one of those quirks of French like 'personne' - person that means no one. So what's not not terrible? Well the weather. After a very wet winter and spring (the Cannes Film Festival canceled some outdoor events because of rain!), summer is finally here. But the residue of winter and spring are still in the air. After some initial sun and summer like weather, we're back to overcast skies mixed with rain. There's much going for France but this year it hasn't been the weather. Living & Investing in France ConferenceAdrian Leeds, who was on my Podcast in March, is organizing a Living & Investing in France Conference this September 27-29. It will be held in Nice, France. If you've ever dreamed of owning a "pied-à-terre" in France then this conference is for you! For more information click here. French LinkedInOne thing about being an expat, you don't always have a network to tap into when looking for work or business contacts. Viadeo can help. It's the French equivalent of LinkedIn and works much the same way, you make contacts and build your network. As of this year Viadeo had 50 million members worldwide. La Roche BluegrassMy town's yearly Bluegrass Festival takes place from July 31 to August 4. You can see and hear highlights from 2011. See this year's poster. Mail BoxYEi Competition: Win a business trip to France with the YEi start-up competition. They're looking for 'innovative American start-ups looking to explore opportunities in France.' AdvertisementsLes Rossignols: Is a beautiful old Quercy farmhouse built around 1840, near Assier, in the Lot, Midi-Pyrenees. Close to Figeac, the famous medieval riverside market town, there is much to do and see. Three bed and breakfast rooms are available, from a romantic double room with private roof terrace, to a family room for four/five, all overlooking the large, salt water swimming pool. Global Insurance Net: If you are thinking about moving to France you will need health insurance to get your visa. A great company that will help you with this is Global Insurance Net. I found out about Global Insurance Net in 2003 through another expat and have been recommending them ever since with no regrets. Carlos Perez the President, CEO of Global Insurance Net has always been very easy to work with.
