La Bénite Fontaine

The article about La Bénite Fontaine has been moved.

World Cup

One thing many Americans miss out on is the ‘Football?’ world cup. I’m not talking about the game but unifying behind a country. Case in point tonight (this was written on July 2, 2006). France just won their quarter final match against Brazil. We were at a friend’s dinner party. We didn’t watch the game, didn’t have to. Whenever something important happened we heard the neighbors yelling. On the way home we drove by, I don’t know how many people in the streets waving the French flag and honking horns. This was a type of togetherness, a national pride in France winning, that Americans don’t have a chance to experience. Sure America has the Super Bowl when millions get together to watch our version of ‘Football’. But that’s not the same. Why? Not everybody is rooting for the same team. In France tonight the French were united behind ‘les Bleus’.
