Subject: Marrying French Citizen, Formalities for Carte Sejour?
Date: Saturday, August 19, 2006
Name: fk55
Message: helloo! i need help! I'm getting married to a french citizen in 2 weeks! :) I've confirmed that it is the 'carte de sejour temporaire' that i need to apply for after we are married to be able to work and stay here. My questions are:

1. i'm planning to travel to visit family overseas the month after the wedding (october, i'd be away for 2 wks), and i need to know if i apply for the carte de sejour temporaire immediately after the wedding, how long will it take for me to receive it, and would i be able to choose when i take my medical exams/interviews blah blah (like after i get back from my trip) or do i not have a choice and therefore have to be here for when they call me?

2. I am here on a short stay visa (3 months), which ends 20th september. My wedding is 2nd september. If i make my application for carte sejour temp immediately, is it ok that it passes the expiry date, if my carte sejour is in process of being done?

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me!

Message I think that when applying for a visa, you do not have the right to leave the country while the visa is being processed. You will receive a "convocation" for your medical visit and everything and so you cannot choose your date.

Message You know I had to do this too there are alot of things you will need. Be sure to visiit the prefecture! You basically need things like your birth certificate (translated by a certified translator) etc..

You really need to read this!

Getting Married in France from the Embassy

But I fear that it being in 2 weeks you won't have enough time! Good luck getting all the documents together in time!!!!!
