Daily Life
In France, there are only two legal sale periods: winter sales (Soldes d'hiver) that start in January and summer sales (Soldes d'été) that start on the last Wednesday in June for most departments in France. Each will last for about five weeks and bargains of over 50% can be found in abundance. There usually is a nation-wide start date, but some departments can start earlier so check dates where you live are will be traveling. Also overseas departments tend to have different dates than mainland France. There have also been a few modernization laws over the years and now it’s possible for shops to have two extra sales periods of one week each per year. It’s up to the merchant to set the dates as they like. But these extra sales must finish one month before the regular (winter and summer) sales periods begin.
