PodcastKelly Kamborian

In this Podcast Jeff Steiner talks with Kelly Kamborian. Kelly lives in Fontaine-lès-Dijon in Burgundy.
Kelly works as an English teacher and tour guide.

Kelly starts by talking about where she lives in France, getting married at the local town hall and what it's like raising children in France. Kelly finds France to be child friendly, good childcare and flexibility with her kids being about to either eat at school or home.

Kelly then discusses what she does – teaching English to adults and tour guiding. She offers a few suggestions on finding teaching jobs and how she got into being a tour guide. She then talks about how long she has been in France and why she came to France. She says that she knew very little French when she arrived and how her interest in grammar helped. She then gives some suggestions for learning French, how long it her to be 'operational' and that newcomers are often isolated if they don't know much French, but this passes and is part of the process and can in fact be beneficial.

Next, Kelly mentions what she didn't like about France at first – long lunch brakes and some of the things she still doesn't like – 35 hour work week. She then gives a few suggestions for those thinking of moving to France – give it a try but know finding work isn't easy and neither is getting work papers.

Lastly, the conversation moves to what Kelly likes about France – long vacations and enjoying meals, living near so much history. Then she comments a little bit more about things she didn't like about France at first but have improved – less public smoking and what hasn't improved - amount of paperwork. Kelly ends with what she misses from the US – Sunday newspaper and how in America people can easily change careers.
