Daily LifeLawyer in France

If for some reason you need to see a lawyer (avocat) in France it is possible to get a free consultation, called consultations gratuites in French. I received one by going through my local Mairie (Town Hall) and was given a bon d'orientation. With a bon d'orientation it's possible to see a lawyer for free. The consultation won't last long, for me it was twenty minutes. But it will let you get answers to a few questions for free.

It's also possible to contact your local Ordre des avocats and see if they offer free consultations. The Ordre des avocats de Paris does just this Consultations gratuites.

When I received my bon d'orientation at my Mairie, I was given a list of lawyers in my area. The list was supplied by my local Ordre des avocats. It had lawyers listed with their area of expertise. From the list able I was able to call around and make an appointment. The lawyer I saw was very nice but as this is a free service, the lawyer isn't paid not all will see you. But as lawyers in France can't advertise, seeing someone with a bon d'orientation is a good way to get new clients.

The US Embassy in Paris publishes a list of American and English speaking lawyers in France.

Two English speaking lawyers Fabien Cordiez and Avi Bitton.
